Just over the border from Puerto Viejo are these islands in Panama with a laid-back Caribbean vibe and some great snorkeling and diving.

This package is customizable: the base package is a 2 day/1 night expedition that leaves Puerto Viejo early in the morning and returns late the next day from Bocas.

It includes round trip transport, 1 night hotel and activities. Or add more nights and more activities. You can also return to (or start in) San José.

Getting there

After picking you up at your hotel, we will go by microbus to Sixaola, which is the town on the border with Panama. We will cross the Rio Sixaola, pass through immigration and then take another minivan which will take us to Almirante where a small passenger boat will take us to Bocastown on Isla Colon. Depending where you stay in Bocas, you will have to take another short water taxi to another island or walk to your hotel on the main island.

Where will I stay?

There are a wide variety of accommodation options in the islands of Bocas del Toro. Your travel expert will help you find the best option for you. The main island Isla Colón has the most restaurants and nightlife and a wide variety of accommodation options from basic hostels to luxurious resorts. Isla Bastimientos is a car free island which also has many accommodation options and a decent number of restaurants and services. Or you can choose one of the smaller options for a unique experience at a resort.

Activities

Whatever you do on Bocas you'll probably need to get there in a boat! Boat tours to remote beaches, snorkel and deepboarding tours, diving, nature hikes and so much more are all available.

Returning

Most people return back to Puerto Viejo the same way they came via boat then shuttle van. But you could also return to San José or other destinations directly with a shuttle that travels via Puerto Viejo. And there are direct flights in less than an hour from Bocas del Toro airport to San Jose but note they do not leave every day of the week. You can also end your package in Bocas del Toro if you're planning on continuing with independent travel further into Panamá and of course we'll deduct the cost of return transport.
