How is the City during Easter Week ? Do the bars shut down darning Easter weekend. We heard it may be hard to find a place to go out at night and want to confirm if this was true or not.

Costa Rica has always had "dry" laws for Semana Santa -- not the whole week but 3 or 4 days around the weekend. During that time it was not permitted to sell alcohol in either restaurants or stores. So the result is that people stocked up beforehand and the beaches and streets were full of drinkers which of course created many problems. Some restaurants and bars flouted the rule but not many since losing your liquor license was a big risk. The good news is that I just heard last night that this is changing this year for the first time. I don't have all the details but it sounds like restaurants and bars will be allowed to serve all weekend. Hopefully this will keep the streets and beaches cleaner and safer. I am not sure about the stores so I assume they will still not be allowed to sell alcohol for several days.

Easter weekend and dry law
This year all bar and restaurant can sell alcohol like any other time of the year during Easter Weekend after abolishing the 80 year old dry law prohibiting it. Liquor stores and super markets can as well. A new law has made it illegal to drink in public places outside of restaurants and bars though I beat the enforcement will be spotty at best

Great New Restaurant inside the Wildlife Refuge Gandoca-Manzanillo. Just 20" from Puerto Viejo, on the main road (in front of the entrance to the secret surf point Playa Grande). El Refugio Grill, is the best experiencie you could have on your visit to the Caribbean. Run by it's owner, an Argentinean Chef, you can try any dish of the small daily menue and your are not goint to be disapointed.

Try Monita Bonita's the food is great the service is wonderful, loved the curry chicken, also bruchetta was supper! the 4 cheese pasta with homemade fetticini great too!
